Forklift Rental for Warehouse Operations in Baku: What to Consider

15 March 2026

Baku's logistics sector is growing, with new warehouses and distribution centres along the Sumgayit highway and in the Alat Free Economic Zone. Whether you're setting up a new facility or managing peak seasonal demand, forklift rental in Azerbaijan is a practical solution for variable workloads.

Step 1: Determine Your Capacity Requirement

Standard warehouse pallets in Azerbaijan carry 500–1,000kg. A 2-tonne forklift is the workhorse for most standard warehouse operations. For heavy industry, steel stockholding, or container operations, 3–5-tonne capacity may be required.

Key rule: a forklift's rated capacity is at a specified load centre (typically 500mm from the fork face). Loads that are wider or heavier than the specification reduce the effective capacity. Always account for this in your selection.

Step 2: Indoor or Outdoor?

For enclosed warehouses, electric forklifts are strongly preferred:

No exhaust emissions — critical in a sealed building
Quieter operation
Lower running cost per hour
No need for LPG cylinder management or diesel refuelling on site

For yard and external loading operations, diesel or LPG machines handle uneven ground and work through a full shift without battery charging.

Step 3: Check Aisle Width

Before selecting a forklift, measure your aisle width. Standard counterbalanced forklifts require an aisle of at least 3.5–4m to turn with a pallet. If your warehouse has narrow aisles (under 3m), a reach truck or narrow-aisle machine may be required — contact us to discuss alternatives.

Step 4: Operator Documentation

As noted in our article on working-at-height regulations, forklift operators in Azerbaijan must hold a valid certificate. If your team needs certification, contact the State Labour Inspectorate for approved training centres in Baku.
